Commissioner Spell's Welcome

In Memory of Robert N. Stockett, Sr.

The 2009 Mississippi State Fair is dedicated to the memory of
Robert N. Stockett, Sr., who passed away on March 28, 2009.

Mr. Stockett served as a member of the Jackson Fair Board from 1932-1946 and as a member of the Mississippi State Fair Commission from 1946-1998.  During these 66 years that Mr. Stockett served as a member of these boards, he dedicated much of his personal time to securing funds for improving and enlarging facilities on the fairgrounds.  His leadership and dedicated efforts helped make possible the present day fairground facilities that host 252 events with approximately 2 million visitors each year.

On behalf of the Mississippi Fair Commission and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, I would like to welcome you to the 150th Mississippi State Fair. There will be many opportunities for you and your family to have a great time at this 12-day event.

As in previous years, there are great rides on the midway, wonderful exhibits in the Trade Mart, a huge variety of food vendors with great food, Circus Maximus, the petting zoo, and great shows in the Coliseum.  Don't forget the Biscuit Booth, the statewide 4-H and FFA livestock shows with outstanding animals, and the horse and mule pulls.  If you need directions or need any type of information, go to the quest information booth on the west side of the grounds near gate one.

I look forward to seeing you on the midway!

Lester Spell, Jr., D.V.M.
Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce
Fair Commission Chairman

As executive director of the Mississippi State Fairgrounds, I would like to welcome you to the Mississippi State Fair.  As a celebration of our 150th year, you might enjoy visiting the Trade Mart to see Fair memorabilia, which celebrates this event.

Our state fair is the largest and most popular event held in the state of Mississippi.  With 23 years of fair management experience, I have learned that your comments and input are important, so please know that your comments are always welcome.

Billy Orr

Executive Director
Mississippi Fair Commission
